FAQs
Are Blackwell's items original or reproductions?
All items offered by Blackwell Portfolio are original historic works on paper, no reproductions, facsimiles, or modern prints.
How does Blackwell determine age and authenticity?
Dating and attribution are based on paper characteristics, printing methods, cartographic or documentary context, and comparison with known examples. Dates are given conservatively when exact attribution is uncertain, and descriptions reflect the best available scholarship rather than speculation.
How often does Blackwell add new items?
New works are added gradually, as we favor careful curation over constant inventory turnover. When an item sells, another is introduced from our private portfolio - sometimes immediately, but never before proper research and preparation have been conducted.
Can Blackwell source a specific map, print, or document?
Occasionally. Blackwell may assist with targeted acquisitions when the request aligns with the portfolio's focus and network. Not all requests can, or should, be fulfilled.
What are Blackwell's shipping and handling practices?
All Blackwell Portfolio items are shipped from the United States using insured, trackable services. Each piece is packed by hand with archival-safe materials appropriate to the age and fragility of historic paper - no bulk handling, no shortcuts.
Shipping and professional packing costs are calculated and added at checkout based on destination and shipment weight. Item prices reflect the value of the historic paper itself and do not include shipping.
International buyers are always welcome. Customs duties, VAT, and import fees are the responsibility of the recipient and are not included at checkout. These charges are assessed by the destination country and collected by the carrier prior to or upon delivery.
Items are shipped unframed unless explicitly stated. Once shipped, tracking information is provided, and every order is insured for its full purchase price.
